"ASA
NW Tour Rookie Of The Year Eager For Showdown Weekend"
PORTLAND, Oregon - For Joey Tanner it seems like only yesterday
that he was behind the wheel of an asphalt late model stock car for the first time in his driving career and turning laps
at the famed Toyota Speedway at Irwindale in the 2009 NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown. The reality is Tanner and the
rest of the super late model field took to the track nearly a year ago just long enough to dial their cars in and then watched
the rains fall for nearly two straight days without getting the opportunity to race the entire event. Fast forward to
this year’s Showdown and the driver of the Jody’s Chevrolet Impala heads to Southern California brimming with
confidence after winning the 2009 ASA Northwest Late Model Tour Rookie of the Year title and the prestigious Yakima Speedway
Fall Classic. A short-lived trip to Irwindale one year ago still resonates with the Portland native, he said. “The
Showdown is a race every driver wants to win and for me it was a need to win situation (in 2009) for exposure purposes,”
said the former dirt late model hot shoe. “Having the race on SPEED was a bonus and to have a shortened race dictate
the outcome (of the winner) was very hard to swallow-especially after the kind of year we ended up having on the asphalt in
2009.” Click here to continue

Out With Fall Classic Victory"
Cottage
Grove, Oregon- It was a race to do very well at, a date that had been circled on the young man from Portland’s schedule
all year long. For Joey Tanner the goal at the start of the year was to win the Fall Classic at the Yakima Speedway in Yakima,
Washington. That goal would be accomplished last Sunday night in central Washington for the driver of the B.J. Tidrick owned
#72 Asphalt Late Model. For Tanner the weekend started off great by timing in fifth fastest
out of forty-one cars in qualifications. Starting in the third row, for the prestigious race at the fast half-mile paved oval,
he went straight to work in the two hundred-lap race. It only took twenty laps for the young and up and comer to get to the
second place position and eight laps later the lead was his.
Joey Tanner has been blazing the tracks since
the age of 13. He is currently the 2009 "Rookie of the Year" for the I-racing.com ASA Northwest Late Model Tour.
Joey is now 20 years old & is a Portland, Oregon native. He currently attends Mt. Hood Community College, in Troutdale
Oregon, where he is majoring in Business Management. Joey grew up admiring his father Jody Tanner, watching him race
at the Portland Speedway & in the Nascar Northwest Tour since he was born. His father won numerous races throughout
his career & Joey was able to witness him earn the Late Model Championship in 2000 @ the Portland Speedway, so
it’s easy for us to say, “Racing is in his blood!” Joey's goal in racing is to become
the next driver from the Northwest to make it to the next level of stock car racing.
